| Few procedures in plastic surgery have stood the test of time like the facelift. The term facelift has even made its way into our everyday language.
Who hasn't stood in front of a mirror and given their cheeks and neck a little upward pull to see a familiar, younger face looking back at them? New cosmetics and products are often marketed as giving you a facelift, but may fall short of the promises.
At Plastic Surgery Professionals, we can’t stop the clock but we use our skill and experience to try to turn back the hands of time and perhaps give you a natural, refreshed look.
Our modern facelift procedure addresses a number of changes brought on by aging. Less invasive approaches, such as endoscopic forehead lifts, are also used to treat sagging of the upper face and reduce frown lines for a less worried look.
Of course, the skin is tightened and lifted, but the layers beneath the skin are also treated when necessary. Excess fat in the neck and jowls is trimmed to give a thinner and more sculpted look to the jawline. Fat in the cheeks which has sagged is re-suspended upward. Excess craggy-looking fat in the neck is sculpted and its supporting layer snugged to recreate a smooth platform under the neck.
Facelift surgery is also an art and an area that we specialize in. If you would like to make an appointment to see one of our physicians in consultation, please call us at 410-715-9205 or click here to email us your request.

How Facelift Surgery is Performed: |
In modern facelift surgery, the procedure is tailored to what each individual needs The first drawing shows excess skin being removed and the second panel shows there the scars are placed. We now use many newer techniques which can allow us to limit scars more so than in the past. |
With modern techniques, we are not just tightening the skin, but are sculpting and tightening the layers under the skin. This creates a new foundation under the skin and allows us to achieve improvement without having to make the skin excessively tight. That way, you get a more natural appearance and, we believe, more long-lasting improvement.

Cosmetic eyelid surgery, known as blepharoplasty, is another long standing operation where new methods can enhance results. Before surgery, ‘My eyes look tired’ or ‘I’m tired of looking tired’ are comments we often hear. Eyelid surgery is designed to reduce sagging, tired looking pleats of skin from the upper eyelids and reduce the bags of the lower eyelids that give a tired or worn out demeanor. Added touches such as lasers to smooth skin, Botox or Restylane can complement the results.
How Eyelid Surgery is Performed: |
Your eyelids say a lot about you. Your feelings, your mood, whether you look rested, fatigued, aged or even look heavy can be conveyed by your eyelids. In our 30’s , many people begin to show lines and wrinkles of the eyelid skin. Excess fatty tissue which causes bags under the eyes, can give a tired or dissipated look. Unlike some fat, this fat is not responsive to diet and may be more hereditary. It ‘s not unusual for us to hear, “I’m tired of being told I look tired when I’m not.” On the upper eyelids, excess skin as well as some excess fat can give a crowded, heavy or puffy look. These changes are addressed with cosmetic eyelid surgery called Blepharoplasty.. Depending on the person’s need, Blepharoplasty can be done on upper eyelids, lower eyelids, or both upper and lower eyelids |
Incisions for the upper eyelids are designed to fall into the upper eyelid crease as much as possible, and then gently curve into the natural skin lines to the side. Excess skin is removed. Not every last fold of excess skin can be removed since it is important to maintain enough skin to allow for proper eyelid closure and position. Incisions for the lower eyelids are placed just underneath the eyelash margin parallel to natural skin lines or on the inside of the eyelids. (see below) |
This drawing shows where fatty deposits are found beneath the eyelid skin. These are delicately and carefully sculpted to reduce the excess while leaving enough tissue to try to maintain a natural look. We are very careful to use techniques designed to avoid bleeding and limit bruising as much as possible |
After eyelid surgery, the upper lids typically look less heavy. One can see the eyelid itself again above the eyelashes, rather than seeing just a heavy fold of skin sitting on the lashes. There is a place to put one’s eyeshadow again. The lower eyelids look less tired. When wrinkles and skin texture are also an issue, lasers resurfacing and peeling procedures may be combined with Blepharoplasty to reduce lines, wrinkles and age spots |
One of the newer approach to the lower eyelids is to remove fatty tissue from inside the eyelid, therefore avoiding a visible scar on the lower eyelid. A laser can be used in combination to smooth the skin somewhat. |
