Botox Cosmetic

By now, you probably know that Botox is good for improving the look of your forehead and brow areas.  It works by relaxing over active muscles that lead to lines and wrinkles in the upper face.  When you relax these muscles, you relax the lines and wrinkles, too.  This can turn a harsher, scowling look in the forehead  into a smoother, more youthful look.

Botox is an injectable medication which has now been used in the medical fields for many years. It has a proven track record with a high degree of safety.  It is most often used to help relax the facial lines and wrinkles in the upper third of your face. It relaxes the scowl lines (frown lines, sometimes called the “elevens”) in the central forehead and upper nose and softens the “laugh lines”, sometimes called “crow’s feet” near the outer corner of the eyes. These frown lines result from excess or strong muscle action that creases the skin.  When the muscles relax the wrinkles relax and you look less tired and less angry.  Results typically last about 4 months. It can even give some elevation to the eyebrows when selectively applied.  No wonder Botox has become one of the most popular cosmetic medical treatments world wide.  It has become very popular among our patients in Ellicott City and Annapolis, Maryland.

Botox was the first of the nerve-muscle relaxing agents approved by the FDA, but there are now also several others, such as Dysport and Xeomin. These products work very much like Botox with similar safety and risk profiles but require some differences in technique that we use.

Botox has a very good safety profile and does not require surgery or anesthesia. While all medical procedures and injections have some risks, most of those associated with Botox are minor and resolve over time. For Botox, these include black and blue, redness, irritation, or unwanted motor side effects , such as weakness opening or closing the eyes or double vision or headaches, which are generally temporary. Tell the doctor if you have any nerve or muscle disease that affects your muscle strength.

As Board Certified Plastic Surgeons, our doctors have performed many surgeries around the delicate muscles involved in Botox treatment. They also have many years of experience administering Botox and other injectables, and bring this experience and knowledge to every treatment they perform. At Plastic Surgery Professionals, all of our injection treatments are performed by the plastic surgeons, are not delegated to less experienced personnel, and all at affordable prices!
