Liposuction is a procedure that can help sculpt the body by removing unwanted fat from specific areas, including the abdomen, hips, buttocks, thighs, knees, upper arms, chin, cheeks and neck.
In recent years, there have been a number of advances in liposuction techniques that allow us to provide Plastic Surgery Professionals patients with more consistent results often with more thorough removal of fat. Ultrasonic techniques allow us to break up fat and to remove fat in areas that were previously more resistant to removal with liposuction.
If you’re considering liposuction, it’s important to understand that while liposuction can enhance your appearance and increase self confidence, there are limits to what can be achieved. These will be discussed with your during your consultation with the doctor.

Small incisions are used to gain access to areas of excess fat which are removed with a wand called a cannula. Modern liposuction cannulas are much finer and more delicate than in the past. At Plastic Surgery Professionals, we offer both traditional and Ultrasonic Liposuction techniques which help break up the fat for easier, less traumatic removal.
This diagram shows conceptually how Ultrasonic Assisted Liposuction works. With Ultrasonic assisted liposuction, fat cells are broken up by ultrasound waves which come off the tip of the instrument. The broken-up fatty material is then suctioned away. Ultrasonic Assisted Liposuction allows for a slower, more studied and deliberate motion of the instrument and is less mechanically rough. It is especially helpful at removing fat in certain areas of the body where fatty tissue has a tougher, more fibrous quality.
After liposuction, an elastic compression garment is used to help resolve swelling and help the skin initially contract.
